The story of Adam and Eve places them around six thousand years ago. The Catholic Church has recognised the science of evolution and accepts that it can no longer deny that humans existed long before the time of Adam and Eve. The Church says that acceptance of the existence of humans before the time of Adam and Eve is permitted, as long as it is believed that Adam and Eve were the first people to have souls.
