Afghanistan is called a 'landlocked' country because it does not have a maritime border with any ocean. It is therefore, 'locked' in land. The entire nation is surrounded by land. Which makes it hard for them to trade transfer or sale goods because it is easier to trade by the ocean that crossing land.

It has no ocean access and all of its borders are with various nations via which it must ship all of its imports and exports. It is not a good way to be a commercial winner in the business world.
