∙ 14y agoWhile it is sometimes incorrectly referred to as "The South" to distinguish it from Northern Ireland, The Republic of Ireland makes up the bulk of the island of Ireland. This is includes all of the east, south and west of the island, and parts of the north of the island. In fact, the most northerly point on the island of Ireland is in the Republic of Ireland and not Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland makes up parts of the north of the island and all of the north-east of the island. See the map below at the related link. The area in the top right, enclosed by the red line is Northern Ireland. These are the counties of Armagh, Fermanagh, Antrim, Tyrone, Down and Derry. The rest is all the Republic of Ireland. You'll see that the northern most point is in county Donegal, which is part of the Republic of Ireland.
