Buddhists are neither monotheistic or polytheistic. They are non-theists and worship mo god(s). The Buddha himself stated that the path to enlightenment is by a person's own effort. A deity would neither help or hinder. The pondering on the existence of a deity wold be counter productive as the time spent on questioning the existence or the proper format of worship could be better spent in improving one's self.
