These old Bulgarians were the origins of the people of the modern nation of Bulgaria, but the regions are quite distant from each other, and modern Bulgaria is nowhere near the Volga.
The nation of Bulgaria has no political rivals today. Since the fall of communism, it has been a peaceful place to reside.
