Yes, genes are constructed from DNA, and the chromosomes are where the genes are held, in the cell nucleus.

Note that the chromsomes are not always visible. Normally the nucleus is just an amorphous mass of genetic material. It only forms into chromosomes at the time of cell division (either mitosis or meiosis), allowing the genetic material to be divided evenly between the two new cells.

In Eukaryotes (cells which have membrane-bound organelles), most of the DNA which makes up the chromosomes is contained in the nucleus. Mitochondria (organelles which release energy from food by a process called respiration) and chloroplasts (organelles which convert energy from sunlight in to food) contain a small amount of DNA.

In Prokaryotes (cells without membrane-bound organelles), the DNA is free floating in the cell.

No, cell division takes place in the nucleus of cells. The chromosomes are in the nucleus and are replicated and divided during cell division.
