Cleopatra's Needle does serve a function as a monument. It is an ancient Egyptian obelisk of red granite, about 21m high, and inscribed with hieroglyphics. The obelisk actually has no connection with Cleopatra, but was originally erected in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis on the orders of Thutmose III. Rameses II added further inscriptions commemorating his military victories some 200 years later. There are in fact two Cleopatra's needles; one in London, the other in New York.

Cleopatras needle
The Washington Monument was originally made in the U.S. and Cleopatra's Needle was made originally in Egypt. Cleopatra's Needle has engravings on it and the Washington Monument doesn't.
They died
Yes, it is an obelisk, but it has nothig to do with Cleopatra. "Cleopatra's Needle" is just an exotic name for an ancient Egyptian artifact.
She didn't have anything built as far as most archaeologist and egyptologist know. But the Cleopatras needle was built in honor of her after her death.
Cleopatras needle was made in ancient Egypt somewhere areound 1000 BC but it is not known by who. Cleopatra lives about 1000 years after it was made, so while it has been given her name she was not the one who had it made.
The Cleopatras was created in 1983.
Their is the space needle the Washington monument and lots more!! If you won't all of em google obviously........
the short answer is that it was built for the Seattle worlds fair in 1962. it is significant to the city now as a tourist attraction and i think most locals like it too. Its certainly a significant and very recognizable landmark for the city of Seattle.
the Washington Monument
The London "Cleopatra's Needle" is a pair with the one in New York. They are both from the same site. The one in Paris is a pair with the one that remains in Egypt and is from a different site.
