Both verses refer to knowledge, but that is possibly the only parallel. The reference in 2 Timothy is likely an oblique criticism of the Gnostic Christians who were becoming numerous around the turn of the century. The Gnostics said that knowledge was more important for salvation than faith, so when the author of 2 Timothy criticises others who are "forever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth", he seems to be deriding their ability to use spiritual and theological learning to know the truth.
