It lasted until penicillin was discovered until the disease was becoming perfectly manageable.

In 1878, Queen Victoria's daughter Princess Alice and her family became infected with it, causing two deaths, Princess Marie of Hesse and by Rhine and Princess Alice herself.

• the patient's prior health status
• the patient's pre-existing conditions such as COPD
• the patient's overall condition such as hearty or debilitated
• the patient's age - elderly often have a more difficult time with lung conditions

• whether the bronchitis has a bacterial or viral cause
• the patient's immune system
