Nothing has happened to him. He is selling the storyline.

He is currently retired due to a persistant neck injury. WWE made Edge go through medical assessments after he was complaining about loss of feeling in his left arm. It is believed that if he had wrestled without having those assesments, that he would have been paralyzed within 3 months of his last match (WrestleMania 27 against Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship). He comes back every now and then for a bit of "cheap heat", so the fans can cheer about him being around, but he is likely to never wrestle again. Time will tell.

As of right now Edge is injured. He suffered a detached Achilles heel in July that required surgery. There is no timetable for his return and the injury is thought to be career threatening.

Yes he did. He said on Monday Night Raw that the last little while he was in some pain and that he was feeling numbness and losing feeling in his arms. See, eight years ago he suffered a broken neck and had extensive surgery. Well fast forward to current times and all of the wrestling has taken a toll on his body. He was told by his doctors that he had to retire and that retirement was his only option. The good news: Edge most likely will be able to walk around for the rest of his life. The bad news: The WWE and all of the WWE fans are losing a top notch talent and a top notch performer. Edge was one of the best of all time and he will someday be enshrined into the WWE Hall of Fame. Edge is doing what is best for himself and his family and I wish him the best. Goodbye Edge and good luck! :)
