Currently, Egypt is predominately Muslim which is Monotheistic (One God), while Ancient Lower Egypt, Upper Egypt and Unified Egypt all had polytheistic (Multiple gods) religious attributes. Compare it to the Norse Paganism and Christianization.

ancient Egypt was mainly polytheistic, though some Pharaohs strongly promoted the worship of a particular god to the exclusion of others (example: King Tut's father, Akhenaten, introduced a system that essentially continued to recognize the other traditional gods, but regarded only a single god ... Aten ... as worthy of worship; this is called monolatrism and isn't quite the same thing as monotheism but is close). Typically, these departures from polytheism did not last more than a generation or two.

Modern Egypt is about 90% Muslim with the remaining 10% being mostly Christian ... both monotheistic religions.
