Alai is Enders first friend at battle school. Alai is Ender's SECOND friend after Shen. He eventually becomes a commander of an army. NO he is not gay, and he did not "kiss ender on the lips actually french kissed him in the the midst of the night" he kissed him on the forehead, no, it doesnt mean hes gay, its just the tradition of the country he came from. The gesture is supposed to show the author's incorporation of cultural knowledge within his book. Basically, the action was nothing more than another way of saying "Fare thee well" and should not be confused as being a homosexual advance.Also, at this point in the story, the two boys are 6 years old!
