Both. In the initial stages when it does not cause any infections so there it exists in lysogenic phase. When it causes infection, cell bursts out releasing large number of mature virions. There it exists in the lytic phase.

HIV is a retrovirus meaning that it contains reverse transcriptase to create DNA from RNA. This DNA is then incorporated into the genome of the host cell.

In the lysogenic cycle, HIV can remain dormant in the host genome for months, years or even decade.

When actively replicating in the host cells, the cycle is still lytic, even if the cells do not necessarily lyse in the case of HIV.

How does the reproduction of HIV and lambda phage differ?

The Lambda Phage bacterial virus replicates itself whilst the HIV virus binds itself to existing cells and damages them. Lamba Phage increases with a "lysogenic" cycle, whilst the increase of HIV is known as "Lytic".

Is measles lytic or lysogenic?

HPV infects the dermis layer of cells using the lysogenic cycle.

How lytic cycle is more efficient?

The only thing the lytic cycle is more efficient in is killing the cell. The lytic cycle is when the initiation of making lots of bacteria copies begin. Once complete, the cell bursts and the virus products will scatter and infect other cells.

Does the avian flu have a lytic or lysogenic cycle?

I believe it is lytic. Think: colds are fast acting; they don't sit in your cell for years on end. This means they are lytic (fast acting).

Is rabies a lytic or lysogenic virus?

Yes rabies is lytic. The lytic cycle is a cycle of viral reproduction and is how some diseases are spread.

Lytic.

lytic

Does rhinovirus have lytic or lysogenic cycle or both?

In nature, rhinoviruses are lytic.

Does SARS go through a lytic or a lysogenic cycle?

The virus that causes AIDS, HIV, is lytic in nature. Once it attaches itself into a host cell, it will go about integrating its genetic material into the host cell and use its machinery to force the cell to make copies of the virus. Additionally, the viral cell will kill the host cell in the process.

Does the lytic cycle or the lysogenic cycle automatically destroy the host cell?

Lytic.
