The character, Harry Potter, is not bad. Quite the opposite in fact, Harry Potter always fought for the good side.
The books are not badly written and many people enjoy them. However this changes person to person as not everybody likes the same things.
Once again, opinions on the movies differ from person to person as some people really enjoy them and other not so much.
This question could also be asking if it is bad to read Harry Potter to which the answer is no. Some religious people are against the series as it promotes witchcraft but reading some books or watching some movies is not going to do you any harm.
