While both are very strong woods, hcikort has a higher modulus of elasticity- that is why tool handles, such as hammers, axes, etc, were traditionally made of hickory.
It's sort of average. If you have it, you can use it. It will burn more quickly than many hardwoods (oak, ash, hickory)
Various gum trees make for fairly decent fireword. Not as good as oak or hickory, but better than cottonwood pine or fir. Many species of gum are a pain to split, but once split burn OK.
While the TYPE of wood does eneter into this, the CONDITION of the wood is more important. almost any wood that is properly seasoned will burn well- they do give off different amounts of heat per lb of wood. If it has been cut, split, and stacked out of the weather for one full year, you will have good results with most woods. I prefer hardwoods such as hickory, locust, ash and oak for hot clean fires.
I spilled perfume on my oak tables and what can I do?
oak is the best because it burns faster and does not leave a mess
White oak, hickory, ash, blackthorn oak.
Maple, Hickory and Oak come to mind.
Hickory is probably the bestAnswerEnglish archers used arrows made of ash, oak, and yew, since hickory wasn't available.
hickory, maple, oak
Not as good as oak or hickory, but much better than some other woods. We use a fair amount of it mixed with oak. It is very difficult to split, but burns well when seasoned.
Oak wood, think of it this way, which will win, shin bone or wooden bat?
It's sort of average. If you have it, you can use it. It will burn more quickly than many hardwoods (oak, ash, hickory)
The smokehouse I once toured had three types of wood on hand: Oak, Hickory, and Pine. The Hickory was the main wood for the fire. The Oak was used to 'cool the fire', and the Pine was used to 'heat up the fire'. In the lower 48, Mesquite wood has become popular. Happy 'cuing!
Any species of Oak is stronger than any species of Aspen. Aspen is among the weakest and softest of woods. Some Oaks are harder and tougher than others, but all species of Oak are harder and tougher - not to mention a lot heavier - than any species of Aspen.
We're not 100% certain what specific tree "gopher wood" refers to, so it's not possible to answer this question. If it was cedar, then oak is stronger. If it was something else, then who knows.
Not as good as some others. It can be mixed with hickory or apple if you do not have enough of those.
When dry- good, yes. Great- no. Heat value is lower than oak, hickory, locust, ash. It is not often burned (except scrap) due to the value of the wood for woodworking. It is a very heavy wood.
