Hoechst acquired Celanese many years ago in the late 80's or early 90's. A number of years later they divested Celanese into the public market. A few years after that Black Stone took Celanese private, did a bit of cleanup work and then IPO'd back into the public market as Celanese (stock CZ on NYSE) where it remains today.
