what is IRS reference code 1081
The IRS reference number means that they are source codes when people get certain errors after filing tax returns. Some of the IRS reference numbers are 1541 refund froze, 1301 return was filed late, and 8001 computer failed to authenticate information.
I received the same code, 8001, From what I understand, It means that the IRS has pulled my return and they are redoing it. In my case to include the Injured Spouse Form that they failed to include with the return when I first paper filed it back in Feb 2010. They claimed they did not receive it, so I had to resubmit it to them, and I have been waiting this whole time, a total of 16 weeks to receive my refund, which by the way I still have not gotten. I just received the code notice yesterday. Hope this helps
The IRS assigns reference codes, for example, for the status of refund problems. According to the Internal Revenue Manual, reference code 1201 means 'all other conditions not covered by a status code'. Upon being given this code by an inquiring taxpayer, the IRS agent is directed by the Manual to 'conduct account analysis'.
generic code means accepted but not proceesed into system yet.
if you call irs they will not tell you the problem they will telL you there is nothing wrong with your taxes but common sense will tell you it is a RED FLAG.........
"Reference Code for all math error conditions" according to the Internal Revenue Manual. The agent is directed to analyze the account and act accordingly.
With the IRS, the reference number 1242 means that the IRS put a freeze on your account. This typically occurs when they are waiting for additional information from you.
According to the Internal Revenue Manual, IRS reference code 1221 has a status description of 'Refund delayed, pulled for review, within 7 cycles'. The IRS agent is directed to 'conduct account analysis'. The Internal Revenue Manual is available online at the IRS website, www.irs.gov/irm. The reference codes are available under the Refund Research Section at 21.4.1-4 Internet Refund Fact of Filing Reference Codes.
I received the same code when attempted to check my refund status on-line. I paniced for a minute just with the thought that something may have been wrong with it and now I have to deal with the IRS. I called the phone # and the extension provided. The IRS rep was very professional ( although I had to repeat my SS# like 5 times as she kept on getting it wrong) and she put me on-hold as she pulled my return. She came back and said that my return was processed and the check will be mailed next Friday.
I got this code on the "where is my refund" on IRS.GOV when I checked to see what date I should expect my return. I had already had my refund "Accepted" according to Turbo Tax but when I checked this am it said there has been a delay and to call the IRS and give reference code 1541. I called IRS and they are saying I am having my refund looked into for alleged unreported income from 2011. They didn't say much else except they will be in touch. I would assume if you get this code you are being looked into for one reason or another. Hope this helps.
