Death Summary: Croce perished in a plane crash less than an hour after finishing a show in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He and his guitarist-friend Maury Muehleisen along with opening act comedian George Stevens were flying to Sherman, Texas and all killed when the plane didn't get high enough to clear some trees at the end of the runway, crashing, upon take off. Croce was 30 years old, and his next album was to come out the day after his death. That album spawned three hits, and an earlier song of Croce's (and one of his most famous) Time in a Bottle, became a number one hit.
