No Josh died out on the lake.

Before i tell you how i'll give you a little background info. To my understanding the people of sheperds glen have to sacrifice one of their children. The sheperd family chose to sacrifice Alex and to make it easier they treated him badly so that Alex would resent them because i suppose it would be easier on them if he hated them.

What happened was one night Alex woke up Josh and asked him to come out onto the lake. Josh hesitated as their father would be very mad however when Alex basically called him a chicken which managed to coax Josh said ok. Once they were both out on the lake they began to talk now bare in mind Alex was jealous of josh because his parents always favoured him. Alex started to say that mom and dad hated Josh to wind him up to which Josh replied " oh yeah then why did dad give me this" it was the ring. Alex grabbed it off Josh but Josh tried to snatch it back they were both now pulling it then Alex let go causing Josh to fall back hit the side of the boat then fell into the lake. Josh either drowned in the lake or broke his back on the side of the boat.

With Josh dead they had payed their sacrifice so Alex was not killed however he was shocked at the fact he killed josh but it was an accident. Afterwards Alex became unstable and was in some sort of mental asylum until he came out under the impression he had been discharged from the military.
