The hardest Lego technic set in my era was the tow truck (8285) with 1877 parts. Unfortunately they discontinued this set. It looks very realistic.

Hopefully not for a while. I've had a look and Lego Star Wars will be definitely continuing in 2012. I doubt they will ever stop it as it gets the best sales for Lego being one of the biggest Lego themes ever!
