Is MacBook Pro more of a home computer or laptop?

Many people regard Apple Inc.'s line of Powerbooks produced in 2002-2003 to be the first "True Laptops." Many of these portables are still in use today and with increased RAM they often outperform many modern laptops in many tasks. The reason for this performance gap in favor of Apple's Laptops had to do with Apples early use of the Motorola RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Chip) CPU. Apple opted to use the RISC chip which came in G3, G4, and finally G5 iterations, was that Apple set a strict performance specification that the RISC CPU was capable of satisfying at that time. As the Intel company began producing faster and more powerful Computer CPUs that provided price advantage, Apple started moving away from the RISC CPUs towards the Intel CPUs. Another reason had to do with the lack of development beyond the G5 that was occurring on the part of Motorola at that time.

The Titanium, DVI, and Gigabit Ethernet Powerbooks are the forerunners of the Macbook Pro and other Apple Laptops of today. Apple Laptops and Desktop Computers today use Intel Chips and the Laptops have become so powerful in processing power than they are in almost every way the equal of desktop computers. That said, it depends much on what you will be using the computer for of course as there are differences - most notably in the area of Video processing due to the smaller components in laptops.

In summary, Macbook Pro is exactly a laptop. But it performs as well in almost every way to a desktop or home computer so people use it as both a home computer and a laptop. Many people put their Macbook Pro on a home office desk and it never moves despite being a portable laptop.

It should be noted that buyers will get significantly more life out of a Apple laptop. Apple laptops from 2002 regularly command $500 on open bidding websites and often the Powerbooks - including the Titanium (which actually uses Titanium in its case construction), DVI, and Gigabit Ethernet models - are collected avidly as the first "True Laptops" or portables. Many Apple Laptops from the 2002-2004 era with upgraded RAM are in many instances more powerful than generic laptops being produced today.
