I don`t think so they are different in many ways such as what are they made of. X is made from repliod parts while Megaman is in Cyberspace and is probably made from a matter called plasma if there is such thing or I`ll simply say Megaman is a hunk of moving data WITH a personality. (no offence guys!) lets compare the looks. Megaman has the symbol on his chest Lan has on his bandana as you can see but on X`s chest you see some nice disign of armoring. X has a bigger variety of colours then Megaman but he is less brighter. Megaman has yellow shoulder pads but X has blue shoulder pads. Megaman has hair but X dosen`t. X has 2 big slits that let go of a fire like cape as he runs ( In command mission not in x 1,2,3,4 and 5) but Megaman has some kind of pack (looks like an jetpack) that looks pretty much useless So I`m saying they are NOT the same character but fight with the similar kind of main weapon (the original buster) so you could say they are like... brothers exept they arent enjoy the info!

∙ 13y agoMegaman 7 was to be the canon ending of the original series; at the beginning of the game, he briefly mentions getting his "upgrades from a capsule", which refers to the capsule in Megaman X that Dr. Cain uncovered from within the ruins of Dr. Light's laboratory.
For reference, the canon (true) saga endings for the Megaman franchise are listed as follows:
'Megaman 7' for the Megaman saga.
'Megaman X5' for the Megaman X saga.
'Megaman Zero 4' for the Megaman Zero saga.
'Megaman Battle Network 6' for the Megaman Battle Network saga.

its actually the reverse. In the Megaman X series zero can either be sealed away into a capsule or the series continues as normal. The capsule ending signals the beginning of the megaman Zero series.
Who is Megaman?
Megaman was a robot designed by Dr. Light to help out as his lab assistant. Called Rock, he became Rockman (in Japan, Megaman in the U.S.) when Dr. Wily created eight robots of his own and tried to take over the world with them, forcing Megaman to step in and stop him. Dr. Light also made Protoman, Megaman's brother, and Roll, his sister. Megaman has several incarnations such as Megaman Battlenetwork, where Megaman is a NetNavigator created by Dr. Hikari in an alternate universe where instead of robots, the Internet became prevalent. Megaman Zero worked along side Megaman X, they both share the same story line about reploids trying to take over the world and destroy humans. Megaman ZX is about a hundred years after Megaman Zero and X, which in turn were about a hundred years after the original Megaman. It's about the reploids who fought with Megaman Zero and X whose bodies turned to biometals, and the person who uses the biometal will have the power of that warrior. Megaman Starforce is a new series about a kid geo stelar who combines with the fmian omexis and becomes Megaman. They are coming out with Megaman ZX Advent and Megaman Starforce 2 Thunder Berserker, Green Shinobi, and Fire Dinosaur; the game has awesome graphics and a new twist.
