The only country that is connected to Southern US is Mexico.

Parts of Mexico, as defined by Spanish conquest are now parts of the United States. New Mexico was once part of Mexico, as was Arizona and California. Mexico itself, is not a part of the United States, but parts of the United States were once Mexico.
The Yucatan Peninsula is part of the country if Mexico.
There is no country below the US, however Mexico borders it to the south
