Mount Fuji is an extinct volcano in Japan and is still snow capped as far as I know. Do you mean Mt St Helen's Washington State?or Mt Pinotubo Phillipines?
Mt. St. Helen's erupted very spectacularly in May 1980. It was an explosion which blew away the northern side of the volcano and reduced it height by 1000feet. Several cubic miles of volcanic matter came out.

Definitely still active. Mt. St. Helens recently had quite a little cough- up (during the early 2000's). And geologic time is very different from human time; a volcano that has erupted during the Helocene (a special geological name for a time period beginning 12,000 years ago) is considered to be active.
