I know that the original Oxycontin does have time release but I am not sure about any of the generic brands. The time release on Oxycontin can be removed by peeling off the outer color (that is the time release)

Oxycontin (generic and name brand) is time released (the 'contin' in Oxycontin stands for continuous) but there are brands availabe without the time release coating. The only one I'm aware of is Roxicodone, which is 15mg of oxycodone and is fast-acting, due to the lack of the time release coating. Roxicodone is normally prescribed for breakthrough pain. But yes, Oxycontin the time release feature only works if the coating is not peeled off, or if the pill is cut in half or quarters. That's the only way to get all the medication of an Oxy out at once. But unless you're opiate-tolerant (meaning you have taken Oxycontin every day for several months straight), I wouldn't recommend it. Trust me, when I tried a 20mg Oxycontin for the first time with the time release still on it, it worked wonders. *sigh* I miss those days. Never abuse Oxy, you will regret it! It never feels the same after you abuse it for years, even if you go a week without any!

Yes it is. This is where many make big mistake and refer to any pain pill that has an opiate in it as oxycontin. Oxycontin is the brand name for a time release pill that ONLY contains the opiate called oxycodone. That reason for the time release on oxycontin is to allow for much higher mg per pill that is gradually released over an 8-12 hour period in order to keep a level amount in the blood of the patient for better pain control around the clock without the highs and lows of instant release. The strongest instant release formula of oxycodone is 30 mg which are referred on the street as "blues" or "Roxies" and are the most abused and sought after by addicts. The most common version is the instant release pain pill that will have up to 10 mg of oxycodone and up to 650 mg of acetaminophen (Tylenol) which are mainly called Percocet, Roxicet, Tylox, etc.. These are the ones docs prescribe the most for acute or short time pain. Oxycontin should only be used long term for chronic pain that cannot be controlled any other way since it is VERY difficult to quit! It should never be used for acute or temporary pain!

What is stronger Oxycontin or oxycodone?

Oxycontin and Oxycodone are the same thing. Oxycontin is made from Oxycodone. Oxycontin is time released so it continuously release the medicine and oxycodone is not time released. It depends on how much of each you take. Say if you take a 40 MG Oxycontin pill and and 4 Oxycodone 10/325, you feel the effects of the 4 oxycodone pills because the Oxycontin time released but they are the same thing. Whichever one you take more MG of will be stronger.

How is the pill Oxycontin designed to work?

Oxycontin is formulated as an extended release medication for pain. It is taken either twice or three times daily. Immediately after taking the drug some is released into the bloodstream. then, over time, the remainder of the drug is released via a time release mechanism. Initially it was thought that it would last 12 hours, but many have found the need to take it every 8 hours.
