PO2 is higher in the pulmonary vein than it is in the pulmonary artery. It is the only place in the body where the oxygen level is higher in the vein than in the artery.

Does the pulmonary artery have higher pressure than the pulmonary veins?

yes. because it pumps blood to the lungs.

Which hilum of the lung is higher?

The left hilum is higher than the right, due to the presence of the heart in the cardiac notch (in the left lung). 'The left hilium is situated slightly higher than the right pulmonary artery' (Miller 2006), and the hilium consists of the pulmonary artery, pulmonary veins and bronchioles. Why is po2 higher in the aveolous than in the pulmonary veins?

because the pulmonary veins have deoxygenated blood, the pressure decreases as you move away from the initial site of oxygenation.

What is the difference between pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein?

The pulmonary artery carries blood from the heart to the lungs. The pulmonary vein carries blood to the heart from the lungs. Unlike all other veins and arteries in the body the pulmonary artery has de-oxygenated blood and the pulmonary vein has oxygenated blood.

Why pulmonary is an artery rather than vein?

in our body there are both, pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein

Do Veins have high concentration in CO2?

Usually, but not necessarily. A vein is a blood vessel that is returning to the heart, so it usually has a higher concentration of CO2 than an artery. But in the case of the Pulmonary vein, it is returning to the heart from the lungs, so it has a higher concentration of oxygen than carbon dioxide.

Is the artery bigger than a vein?

No the veins are bigger than the artery

Why the pulmonary veins carrying the oxygenated blood and not the pulmonary artery?

it's a pulmonary VEIN because the blood isn't under as much pressure (because it has yet to get to the heart) where as the pulmonary artery is coming straight from the heart so is under more pressure. (the pressure is caused by the heart's contractions)

Why do arteries but not veins spurt when cut?

Blood is at a much higher pressure in the arteries than in the veins, and travels faster. They are deeper in and need to be protected more, as artery cuts are more dangerous than vein cuts.Read more: Why_do_arteries_but_not_veins_spurt_when_cut

Does the right ventricle carry blood to the lungs?

Strictly speaking, anatomically, the right ventricle carries the blood from the right atrium to the pulmonary artery. The right ventricle contracts and propels the blood into the pulmonary artery at a higher pressure than that found in the right atrium.

Why does the heart gives away impure blood through the artery?

A pulmonary artery is an artery in the pulmonary circulation that carries deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs. The largest pulmonary artery is the main pulmonary artery or pulmonary trunk from the heart, and the smallest ones are the arterioles, which lead to the capillaries that surround the pulmonary alveoli.

Is it more dangerous to cut a vein or artery and why?

An artery because blood is pumped through the arteries at a much higher pressure than the veins. Therefore if you cut an artery you will lose a lot more blood a lot quicker than if you cut a vein.
