Pegasus was/is a mythological creature and does not have a scientific name.
Pegasus and his brother, Chrysaor, were the sons of the gorgon, Medusa. She was apparently being a "wild child" with Poseidon in the temple of Athena, that's how she and her sisters got snakes for hair and staring at people while turning to stone. She carried within her womb the two brothers. She got severed at the neck, and Chrysaor and Pegasus sprang out. And older versions of the tale show Perseus escaping the other two gorgon sisters while riding the back of Pegasus. It was out of Medusa's head- that the beautiful, majestic, winged horse Pegasus was born.
