Pluto is much more terrestrial than gas giant in character, with a composition thought to be over half rock, with a rocky core, and outer layers of water ice, and frozen nitrogen, methane and carbon dioxide towards the surface.

Pluto no longer qualifies as a planet per a reclassification made by the IAU in 2006, and is now consideed a minor or dwarf planet.
