The MAIN difference between them is that there is a town in one area in Black, but a forest in White. In the Town, there are tons of trainers, but in the forest there will be Pokemon to catch.

Pokemon black is better than white because it sold more.Basically you have to choose. Pokemon White offers more Pokemon, but Pokemon black offers cooler battles with higher leveled Pokemon, such as lv.65 Magmortars. I'd personally choose black because all the exclusive Pokemon in white is in my other heartgold game. So I can basically transfer them to Black and still do cool battles! And that's all I know. [Pokemon black has a cool, city like feature too, which probably beat White's forest].
Why is the new game Pokemon black based on the white Pokemon Reshiram and Pokemon white based on Zekrom?
there is no "good" reason for that. just for fun. but i think Nintendo did that just because black looks better on white instead black on black (else you have a big black picture)
