Is Publix buying bilo

Have heard rumors that Publix is buying 30 BI-LO stores, unsure where, but North Carolina would seem likely as Publix is not yet in NC. BI-LO currently has about 44 stores in NC.

Bi-Lo has been placed for sale by Lone Star Funds some time ago with no suitors and has recently exited bankruptcy. Several stores company wide have completed or are undergoing remodels. It is being rumored to be sold in the future, either as a chain or in selected markets.

Three Bi-Lo locations have closed in the past 24 months in the Charlotte area.

Update 2014. Publix has made an acquisition of 7 Bilo stores in Charlotte, and is making a strong presence in that market. From the press release dated October 2013, these stores have been acquired.

Publix's expansion plans to Myrtle Beach are unknown. Its closest stores are in the Columbia and Charleston areas.

Bi-Lo has recently closed one or two locations in the Pee Dee area.

Publix has announced plans for stores in Pawleys Island and North Myrtle Beach.

It's not a question of just buying some lowes stores, they would buy all of them. And quite frankly publix is huge. I work at a lowes foods and just from what I can tell they are interested in Lowes and Harris teeter. But the thing is publix is so big that say if they bought lowes it would destroy Harris teeter and vice versa. So the question can they? Yes will they? No one knows. There's been rumors for over 2 years and I doubt it will happen anytime soon
