In Season 6, "Let's Kill Hitler", River tries to kill the Doctor with poisoned lipstick. Toward the end of the episode she heals him, sacrificing all her regenerations to do so. She goes off to study archaeology, to find clues to locating the doctor. During this episode, the guys from the future also identify River Song as a criminal, the woman who killed the Doctor. At the end of "Closing Time", River finishes her doctorate and Kovarian returns to tell her that some of the clues that she's been digging up about the Doctor - the date and place of his death, for example - are correct, and that she, River, is the "Impossible Astronaut" who will kill him. Kovarian has some of the Silents drug her, dress her in the astronaut suit and - as the episode ends - we see River submerged in Lake Silencio, waiting to kill him.
SONG OF THE RIVER BY: MARK PATTERON Can you hear the song of the river? The voice of the gentle stream? It sings as it spills and slumbers, then it flows swift and sure to the sea. My song is like the river flowing stronger as years go by. And time makes both more lovely, the river's song and mine. Can you hear the song of the river? Singing on as storm clouds roll? Though wind and rain pass over, stronger still the river flows My song is like the river running shore under stormy skys. And the rain makes both more lovely, the river's song and mine My song is like the river running shore under stormy skys. And the rain makes both more lovely, the river's song and mine the rain makes both more lovely, the river's song and mine
