On June 8th, 2011, a day after Nintendo's presetation at E3, Shigeru Miyamoto stated the following: "We really did want to release Pikmin this year in honor of [the series' 10-year] celebration. Earlier, someone asked if we're working on any other Wii games after Skyward Sword. Well, Pikmin was a Wii game we were working on. However, as we've been working on Wii U hardware and I've been looking at those high-definition graphics and that beautiful controller, I've been getting the feeling I wanted to see Pikmin there instead."

Pikmin 3 is a real time strategy game, and will be the third game in the Pikmin series. So far, all we know is Olimar and Louie are gone, which Mr. Miyamoto said the reason was a secret, suggesting the story might have something to do with that, and then we have the new Rock pikmin, the five old pikmin, and the confirmed but unknown new pikmin later in the game. An unconfirmed pink pikmin can be seen briefly in the beginning and end of the trailer.

Honestly I don't think Pikmin 2 is going to come out for the Wii. It is near the death of the console and Miyamoto-son already said hinted at Pikmin 3 for the Wii U. I just don't see it happening.

There will definitely not be a Pikmin game for the Nintendo DS. There is only one planned release of Pikmin, and that is Pikmin 3 coming out for the Wii.
