Although the story has been fictionalized many times over the years, there is evidence to suggest that a Sweeny Todd was real. He killed people for money; however, most of the popular background story of Todd is probably untrue. Also, Mrs. Lovett, a character in the movie, and Broadway musical, and earlier dramas was also real and helped make the bodies of the victims into meat pies. They were eventually discovered because of the smell.
