How does the Academy determine the recipients of the Oscar?

It is chosen by members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. You must be invited by the Academy to become a member. Different branches of the Academy (focusing on different aspects of the filmmaking world) have their own standards of eligibility for potential members.Members of the academy, including actors, producers, directors and a variety of other film craftsmen, choose who will receive the awards that year by casting ballots. So when a winner thanks the academy, he or she is really thanking all their professional peers who collectively decided to bestow the honor. They're also thanking the organization as a whole, which decided to hand out awards in the first place.

How much is the Oscar award prize money?

If you were to buy them off of a scalper outside of the theatre, they would cost thousands of dollars and unfortunately, be invalid, meaning, they wouldn't get you into the show. Unless you are a Hollywood star and have been invited to the Oscars, there are three ways to get a seat at the show. You could apply to be a seat filler, you could register for bleacher seats (which are the seats you see when the stars are walking down the red carpet) or you register as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and purchase tickets that way. The last step sounds easy but don't be fooled; you have to have two current members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences sponsor you. For more details on all three ways to get a ticket to the Oscars, see the related links.
