I don't know if there is a 'best' team, but I always use Mewtwo, Venasaur, Moltres, Articuno, Tyranitar, and Dragonite. I can't get Zapdos because my brother killed it then saved. But if you catch him/her, you should use it in place of Tyranitar.

To get Moltres in Leafgreen, get a tri-pass or rainbow-pass and go to one island. Then go to Mount Ember, and get to the end. There you will find Moltres.

if i were you i would go with blazikien or camerupt because they are powerful but i would eliminate legendary pokemon.
