No they are absolutely not. They have been tangled in lawsuits because Ralph Lauren's pony logo is very similar at a glance. Ralph Lauren is a high-end brand and U.S. Polo Association is rather low-end.

They are just different - it really depends on what you are looking for. The quality is close to the same - but the price is different because one is a designer line (and we all know that designers charge more).

USPA came first then Polo by RL but is the cheaper, "off-brand" version of Ralph Lauren Polo. USPA had two people on the horse rather than one like Ralph Lauren Polo. Also the USPA logo is under the jockey. A true way to tell the difference is the price, Raulph Lauren Polo cost way more than USPA. Ralph Lauren uses high quality cotton to make his shirts. You can buy Polo by RL in Macy's for it's true price but you can buy cheaper versions at Marshalls or T.J. Maxx. I don't mean cheaper as in there fake because they are 100% authentic. They just have minor flaws, most un-noticible. Polo by Ralph Lauren is much better.
