I am not sure what esitnetialism is (or was) but Viktor Frankl was not the father of existentialism. Kierkegaard and Nietzsche are now thought to have been the first two influential existentialist philosophers.

Dr. Viktor Frankl was not a Nazi. He was a Jewish psychologist imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp along with his wife and unborn child, neither of whom survived. Dr. Frankl did survive the camps and went on to write a moving memoir of his experiences, "Man's Search for Meaning".

Viktor Frankl's work was profoundly influenced by his experiences as a Holocaust survivor and his observations of human behavior in the concentration camps. His struggle for meaning in the face of suffering led him to develop logotherapy, which emphasizes the importance of finding purpose in life. Additionally, he drew from existential philosophy and psychology, integrating ideas from thinkers like Friedrich Nietzsche and Søren Kierkegaard. Ultimately, his belief that meaning can be found even in the most dire circumstances shaped his therapeutic approach and writings.
Viktor Frankl did identify as Jewish, but he often emphasized his identity as a human being and a psychiatrist over religious labels. He believed that one's essence is defined by personal experiences and choices rather than by ethnicity or religion alone. Frankl's focus on universal human values and the search for meaning transcended specific cultural or religious identities, reflecting his broader philosophical outlook.
