Wagner's operas are called "music drama" or "Gesamtkunstwerk" in German because of synthesis of different kinds of arts in it. Wagner used this term in 1849 in the meaning of an operatic performance encompassing music, theater, and the visual arts.
Beethoven premiered his Symphonies 5 and 6 in 1808.

He wrote what we call classical music including operas, string quartets, piano sonatas, concertos for different instruments, program music, symphonies, and ballets. That's the type of music he wrote, but the style he wrote in was Romantic.
