Bluekit is born and begins to learn about Clan life. Her mother is killed in a fight. Bluekit is angry, and she and her sister, Snowkit, become depressed. Eventually they live on to become warriors, Bluefur and Snowfur. Bluefur is angry because Snowfur loves Thistleclaw, an arrogant young warrior. When Snowfur's new kit, Whitekit (later to be Whitestorm) is old enough to be without his mother for a short time, Bluefur takes Snowfur on a walk, and admits that she likes Oakheart, a warrior of Riverclan. Snowfur teases her, and Bluefur makes a comment about how she would hate to have kits like Whitekit. This turns out to be the last thing Bluefur says to Snowfur, because Snowfur is hit by a monster and is killed. Bluefur becomes depressed again, but feels better when she has Oakheart's kits. A few moons later, Tawnyspots, the deputy, got extremely ill, and retired. To make sure that Thistleclaw didn't get to become deputy, Bluefur gave up her kits. She became deputy, and later, leader.
