Assuming they are both 3.1L V6, they are not exactly the same. The upper intake and front cover are different. If you are swapping motors and don't mind some extra work, it can be done. I owned dozens of these cars when I was a car dealer.
no it is not :\
Yes, in 2000 the Malibu dropped its I4 engine leaving just the 3.1L V6 which remained the same in the 2000 to 2003 model years. It is also the same on the 2004 to 2005 Chevrolet Classic which is just a re-badged Malibu.
Should be the same. Give your local wrecking yard a call to be sure. They will have the interchanges
yes they are the same engine!!
it should. i have owned a 98' and a 2001. the only difference was the wheel base. trans should be the same from 1997 to 2003 it should. i have owned a 98' and a 2001. the only difference was the wheel base. trans should be the same from 1997 to 2003
Kinda.... an 03 Malibu has some updated parts and sensors and a slightly better engine but overall they are like 98% the same... The '99 and older Malibus are much more diffrent than 01 and newer 03 Malibu LS owner
Well yes and no. Both have a 2.2 four cylinder if I'm not mistaken, but I don't think the earlier Cavalier's have the EcoTec motor. And you should be able to get the engine from the '03 into the '97 with no problem.
no,unless he did something wrong!
i have a 2004 Chevy Malibu classic which i think is the same as a 2003. the sizes r 4-6 on the front doors and 6-9 on the back.
The subframe would be the same. The only thing with different engines would be engine mounts. But that has nothing to do with the subframe.
5 quarts of oil. Don't forget to change the oil filter too. I own a 98 Malibu with the same engine (3100 3.1L) and the owners manual says 4.5 quarts. (4.5 qts.) THAT IS CORRECT!!! I just checked the dealer service manual yesterday.
If the tires are the same size then they will fit. Otherwise, no.
