A cerebrovascular accident (or CVA) is also known as a stroke.

It is where one of the arterial supplies to the brain becomes reduced or stopped in some way, for example due to a blockage through a process known as atherosclerosis or perhaps when a vessel bursts (haemorrhagic stroke) with the resulting brain tissue that is supplied by that artery being starved of oxygen and dying.
