They are really good, but it depends on what kind of dog you are looking for. Golden Retrievers are bread hunting dogs. And they also make great pets, because they are really nice and friendly dogs to have. They get along great with anyone of any age. They are very intelligent and very friendly dogs.
Yes they make excellent pets. They are very loyal, loving and obedient dogs. And it doesn't hurt that they're adorable too!
they are absolutely wonderful! they can be a lot of work sometimes but in the end when your golden retriever is asleep next to you at night you know you've made a good choice.
That is not what they were bred for. They tend to be more of a family or companion dog. However, they will usually bark when they are supposed to. They can be protective of their family as well. It is just not generally in their nature to be aggressive.
It all depends on what you are looking for. They are very social, and do need you to spend time with them. They so not do so well spending a lot of time alone. They are energetic and need to be taken outside to get some excercise every day. They tend to love the water and swimming, but will be OK without it. They like to be your shadow. Everywhere you go, you will find them not far behind. They are eager to please and quick learners. Many Goldens do still have the tendency to be lap babies, even after they are grown. They are great for active people that spend time around the house, or are willing to take them along for activities. The biggest thing though, is attention. You have to be willing to give them large quanities of attention. It doesn't always have to be outside throwing the frisbee. They can be just as happy if you lay your hand on their back while you read your book. They crave interaction of any sort.
Yes. My dog was a Golden Retriever/Chow mix. He wasn't aggressive in any way, shape, or form. I believe that the Golden Retriever in him was the reason why he wasn't like a chow.
Plus, if you read about it online and ask some friends(if they do) Golden Retrievers are very fine pets if you're worried about your kids being hurt. They're also good companions to have around :)
Golden Retrievers are great dogs, as long as you are looking for a loyal, loving companion, but not a watch dog!
They are great with children, other animals, and get along well with everyone.
Just don't expect them to keep away intruders. They're more likely to allow them into your house!

Yes they are very intelligent making them great to train for almost anything, but they are considered very friendly so it depends on the type of work.
