There are several answers to this question.
1- Thanks to Trekkies, and others that dress up and act geeky have brought good sci-fi
down.
2- Within the top 10 best films of all time, over half are Science Fiction.
3- The grabber/water cooler programme. eg Lost.
Some say they hate sci-fi, yet they have at least one sci-fi DVD in their collection.

Found it! For anyone else looking for it, it was Virtual Nightmare (2000) starring Michael Muhney and Tasma Walton, which aired on the SciFi channel in 2004. It's an Australian TV movie, quite interesting.

No, SciFi is just airing season 1 as it often does with discontinued paranormal & scifi shows. It gets them at a discount.

There is evidently one at the SciFi hall of fame in Seattle. They used multiple foam dummies in addition to the suit. I'm not sure which is displayed at the SciFi hall of fame.
