Yess...Absolutely.

J.E.(Erstwhile Sub Assistant Engineer) are Gazetted officers(Now classified as Gr. A officers) in West Bengal. But..... remember only those Gr A who purely serve Govt. (i.e. - PWD, PHE, Irrigation, MED, etc).

They are only appointed through Public Service Commission and by the Governor of the State.
