They can make wonderful pets. Most of them bite so I wouldn't reccamend them to people with small children or anybody who will want to hold them, but they are really fun to watch!!! Not to mention hey are absolutely adorable They make great pets. They're easy to take of too. Give them food twice a day, change the tank water twice a week, and give them a diffrent peice of lettuce everyday. You can find the turtles free, but the tank is about 200 $.
Yes, box turtles make great pets! They just need alot of room to wander and a proper habitat and diet. Do some reasearch!
This is a different person: this may be sort of true in some cases, sometimes they can be aggressive, but a snake is deffinetely not nicer.....they are very nasty! As long as you handle your turtle kindly and nicely and stuff {if u are planning on holding it} then it should be fine. If anything, the claws may hurt....sometimes if you pick them up or something they squirm and scratch your arm! But they are very gentle! Also, keep in mind that there are planty of personalities. I had one that was very aggressive and i named him dynamite, because he could be aggressive, but then there are some that are kind, sweet, and gentle. I hope this helps your decision. Just remember, the turtle didn't ask to be in captivity rather than freely in the wild, so if you are planning on keeping one please make sure you research your turtle throughly, supply an adequite home, and a sufficant diet. The most important thing is to comepletey reaseacrh your animal though, seriously! Thanks.
Some good types of turtles to keep as pets are Red Eared Slider Turtles, Painted Turtles, Mississippi Map Turtles, Yellow Belly Slider Turtles, Cooters, Mud Turtles, and Box turtles. All of these turtles grown to be rather large so make sure that you do your research and find out whether or not you will be able to provide a proper habitat for a 9-13in turtle.
A smaller turtle option would be the Musk or Stinkpot turtle. Don't worry they only stink if you scare them :). I have 2 babies and although they don't like me holding them they enjoy posing for pictures and watching me through the glass.
Another great pet turtle, contrary to popular belief, is the snapping turtle, at least I think so. My snapping turtle is 2 1/2 inches long and quite the lover, he never threatens or bites anyone. You would have to be careful around their face though, because it is their instinct to snap, they can't help it, it's a natural reaction. You would want to get a baby snapping turtle and start from there.
My favorite type of pet turtle is the Eastern Painted Turtle, I have 9 Easties and they all have their own different personalities. They LOVE people and will swim up to you or even come when you call their name. They are very curious and will often pull themselves onto my hand to bask, choosing me instead of their floating log. I think they are the best!
Well, I'm probably getting a turtle soon and I have heard that red slider turtles and painted turtles are usually the most common turtles you would find in a pet store. If you take really good care of them and give them a good habitat they can live for decades.
no because their shell is the place where a serious disease called salmonella is formed and if u don't wash your hands well you could die
Yes, it is, very much so. Your turtle may move at a very slow pace, but they are fascinating to watch. You might just learn about the responsiblities of caring for a living being.
Yes
you can get a box turtle at pet stores and there is a place called Miskito lagoon
yes, they are. although I would not recommend turtles as a good kid pet anyway. if you are going to give your child a turtle, mud turtles are a good beginner turtle. as are box turtles. I have three turtles, a mud turtle, a box turtle, and a spotted turtle, and I am 13. Although it is also a question of how responsible you or your child is.
You can find box turtle pellets on Amazon or at your local pet store. (If they sell turtles)
not realy but hording wild box turtles it is a leagle
You could just be sure to wash your hands good after handleing the turtle. Or choose a different pet.
u good buy it at pet smart or a pet shop
The Box turtle Family is Emydidae
A pet turtle can be about a 50 years old.
Box turtles can be a delightful pet, but as with all animals one must take certain precautions and steps in caring for them. There are websites dedicated to the care and safety of a pet turtle, Turtle Puddle being one of them. In addition, many pet stores which can offer box turtles might also offer pamphlets for basic care needs. A book on the subject could also be obtained, as there are many books for the care and safety of various pet animals.
