There are several different classifications for a contractors license. Some do not need on the job experience so long as you pass the state exam. If you check out the website Contractors State License Board, they have lists of qualifications and processes for each type of license. Usually experience in a particular field is only credible under the grandfather clause.Then you have to have a certain amount with a signed document from employers and or clients. If you have to be tested then the test score is what matters. Grandfathering only works when a state is just entering into a licensing field...they will post a dead line for grandfathering...which means that you conducted services in a specified field before it actually became a law that you needed a license for it.
