The d16y8 is a vtec motor, I have no idea what vtec-e is.
1.6L VTEC D16Y8
get and ex or si motor... try D16y8? i believe... that's as close to stock with vtec...
The D16Y8 engine is a Honda civic single cam motor with constant viarable valve timing (vtec) it outs out 130 horse power with 126 popund foot torque
DX/LX has a D16Y7 SOHC motor and it puts out 107HP. EX has a D16Y8 SOHC VTEC motor and it puts out 127HP.
D16y8 vtec sohc
The standard engine in a 1999 Civic EX is a VTEC engine. It should say VTEC on the valve cover. there is an engine code printed on the block itself if it is a sohc vtec it will read "D16Y8" on the block, plus vtec engines have something called a vtec silenoied located near the distributor. Actually the D16Y8 valve cover does not say VTEC on it.
1.6L VTEC D16Y8
D16y8 head is V-Tec DOHC It has 2 cam's where as A D16y7 is SOHC is has a single cam. ^^this statement is not correct- the d16y8 is ALSO a SOHC only difference is the vtec- if your looking at the front of the valve cover look to the left back of the head to see if there is a vtec selenioid or a hole for it...other ways are to see if the cam has the vtec lobes on it- there are also stamps to look for to make sure...
Depends on sub-model (ex,lax, dx,cx,Si, etc) Ex: d16y8, 1.6L SOHC VTEC with 127 hp Si: b16a2 1.6L DOHC VTEC with 160 hp and only had a 5-speed manual transmission, no automatic option. All others (lx, dx, etc) have a d16y7 non-VTEC rated at 106 hp
yes EDIT: yes and no. not all D16 engines come VTEC stock. For sure the D16y8 does and maybe some others. you can always throw a VTEC head on a non VTEC D16 and make it one. People refer to that as a "Mini me" engine.
There will be a number stamped into the block just to the right of the transmission. The EX you have should be D16Y8, which is the single cam VTEC.
