RAM is used in most computers as temporary memory. This memory only retains information while power is provided to it. Once the power is removed then it loses everything. With a memory card type of memory such as NAND type of memory, information stored in the memory card is retained even when the power is removed (USB memory sticks / SD memory / etc).
