I was still on the pill when I became pregnant in September 2007. The pregnancy felt normal and I was progressing on. I had my first u/s in the beginning of November and was told that I had a blighted ovum. I was devastated. You become a mother the minute you find out you are pregnant. I waited a week for the natural progression. I did not want to have a d-an-c so I waited. I spotted a bit and every time thought this is it. It was never that time- I ended up taking the pill. I took it about 3 pm one afternoon (I was told to take it in the afternoon so I am not up all night into the early morning)- very good advice. I started having contractions at 3:30 pm. That pill works fast! I had 8 hours of stomach pain (labor like). Do not take that pill alone- have someone with you to hold your hand. There is a lot of bleeding involved... and if you over bleed (fill up a pad in short period of time) go to the hospital. It did not go that far for me- thank god! I would say it was about 11 pm the same day that I went to sleep. The next morning I felt fine and at about 3 pm. I had the urge to go to the bathroom where I delivered a small sac. I didnt even look at it - I just thought it was amazing that my body was even doing this..... I thought it was all going to be just bleeding- not full on delivery.... it was crazy. I am doing well now- and have not conceived again as I am not sure I am ready. I am afraid this happens again even though I have choosen to stay off of the pill. I can say that hormones are not good for you and I would say that the pill can cause a blighted ovum or other chromosonal probelms.
Should i get second opinion about blighted ovum with no bleeding or cramping?
I was diagnosed with a blighted ovum yesterday myself. I am sure this is not hthe answer you are loking for, but I am in the same boat and so worried , did not sleep all night and I am feeling so helpless and scared and confused. I have read several articles pertaining to Blighted Ovums - some that gave hope and others that shattered it. My husband is telling me that he believes that the dr is right, but that he suppports my need for a second opinion. I wonder if I should tell the new doc all the details or just okay along as if I know nothing. Maybe we can chat back and forth and give each other insight that others may not be as understanding to. If you had an ultrasound and there was and g.sac and a little dot is it still possible to have a blighted ovum?
I'm wondering the same thing.I had a ultra sound today.The doctor saw the sac and a little dot in the sac.The doctor said that the little dot could be the yolk or a baby? The doctor is makeing me have a repeat ultrasound to determine what the dot was,and if it is a baby.

Definately a blighted ovum. Not much info out there, noone talks about it and you never hear of it. There was a conception so you were/are pregnant (!) but although the sac develops etc, the embryo does not continue to develop. Its very hard because people you tell will carelessly offer up their 'phantom pregnancy' and 'so you wernt even pregnant' comments, but in fact you were/are. Investigate curette and natural miscarriage and weigh up the options. The induction style with drugs to expel the pregnancy had me in hospital 4 days only to have a curette but its not the same for everyone. The curette has risks and you SHOULD wait at least one period before trying to conceive again while waiting to miscarry naturally is better for the body, less risky but hard to wait for while you continue 'being pregnant'. Ho hum. Theres no saying you will have another one if that helps and women go on to have healthy babies.AnswerIt doesn't disappear...it was never formed. It's called a blighted ovum. Your are pregnant, your body feels pregnant, but the embryo does not grow into the next stage...it just stops being. Its hard on woman, because usually you don't find out until two-four weeks after it ceases to exist. So here you are all happy and really the "baby" doesn't exist. I experienced light brownish discharge with mine..from about 6 weeks to 10 when I finally had a intervaginal sonogram. I to had a blighted ovum. I was so happy when i finally found out. but i had cramps and i went to the er. They did an intruterine sonogram on me also i had a sac and was about 6 1/2 weeks along.It was actually a long process and I took it pretty hard. I would be driving down the road an start balling. IF you have this your not considered not pregnant so don't put your self down you just basically had a miscarriage. I have to remind my slef that sometimes. I just say i am a mommy of an angel. :) well anyways i ended up passing the sac a week later i remember the contraction pains and sitting on the toilet for hours. I put on some pads and went to sleep and woke up twice covered in blood. It is very hard mentally but I am stronger and i do many things to rmember my baby! hope you never experience the pain of a blighted ovum.
