An endowment is a sum of money or property that is given to a person, organization or other institution to be used as income. Since animals cannot own property, it is difficult to say a female gorilla can be endowed in any direct sense. It is possible, however, for the animal to live in a zoo or on a preserve that is maintained by an endowment.
